Happy Birthday Peanut !! | 2010

Today is my daughters 1st birthday. 365 days ago my life change and it scarred the (censored words here) out of me. What a year it’s been. I have been blessed with a gift that is for a lack of a better word has been “AMAZING”.

It has not been all fun and games. Countless nights of little to no sleep and worrying over every little noise, bump and bruise. Second-guessing if I’m doing things right. I then catch a glimpse of her, hear a noise or better yet hear her call dad and I know all is right.

As all parents do, I find myself thinking about my little one all of a sudden. I see her staring at me with her big blue eyes even when she’s not around. They have been forever burned into my mind after countless hours of staring at them. I love her little fingers grabbing onto my hands as she looks for a little help to stand up while she learns to walk and who can deny just how great that little baby smell is. I hear and read about all of the firsts that come at this age and get sad that they are passing by but then realize she will always have something new to share with me. On my birthday this year I received a card from Ryan that was signed by every nickname that I have called her over the past year. It took up both sides of the card. It makes me realize just how special this little girl is to me.

Today, on Fathers Day, I get to celebrate my Peanuts first birthday. I marvel at her and think how she has taken on the world and dream of what is to come.

I love you Ryan Makenzie Burns.

It’s hard to believe that Ryan (aka Peanut) is Nine months old. Renee, Ryan and I have managed to not only survive but become a tight-knit little group. Don’t get me wrong, parenthood has not been easy for any of us but the many sleepless nights, crying (not just Ryan), screaming (again, not just Ryan) have all been worth it in ways I never thought imaginable.

Ryan’s teeth are starting to come in and this has called for some celebrating in the Burns household. Ryan is exploring new foods each day. During a recent meeting, I received a text message from Renee that Ryan was enjoying my leftover steak. Tonight, we finally had our Saint Patrick’s Day meal and Ryan enjoyed some corned beef. To help with Ryan’s teething she’s been having Biter Biscuits. We were heading out one day and I grabbed a couple of the biscuits to take along. Renee looked at me and said you can’t give her that if we’re not home!

Now I understand why…..

This coming Friday, November 20th, starts my incredible 3-Day, 60-mile journey. Because of the generosity and the support of all of my donors, we are one step closer to a world without breast cancer.

Thank you Renee for your constant encouragement with fundraising and training even when I wanted to call it quits. Thank you for your love, smiles and understanding of what supporting this cause means to me. I’m looking forward to seeing both you and Ryan out along the walk route over the weekend.
